We have been visiting Target at least once a week since the beginning of August waiting for the Halloween decorations to hit the shelves. Where can you buy a light up smoking cauldron Halloween decoration?
I had the idea to create sort of a witch themed scene on our porch on Halloween. It isn’t the most original idea ever and I actually got the idea from TikTok. I have researched how to create a sort of boiling cauldron effect for quite some time now. All I would need was a plastic cauldron, a water atomizer, and a light. I had seen that there are a number of different water atomizers available on Amazon that had lights built in so that would knock out two birds with one stone.
Ideally I could find something that had everything I was looking for in one convenient package. This is exactly what I stumbled across at Target. Target sells an all in one smoking cauldron with a green light. All you have to do is fill it with water and plug it in for a super cool bubbling and smoking effect. At only $35 it was a no brainer to purchase this thing, take it home, and give it a try with my kids. Here are the results.

When you buy the Cauldron Mister Halloween Decorative Prop by Hyde and EEK Boutique from Target you don’t get much instruction on how the product works. When I purchased mine it did not even come with a box. It was just loose on the shelf with a tag on the side. There were no instructions on how to actually use the prop. Eventually I just decided to jump in and give it a try. Here is what I did.
My first question was what do I put in the cauldron? There is a green inner bowl that looked like it held the liquid that would boil and make the mist. I ended up just putting water into the cauldron and plugging it in. There is a minimum and maximum fill line on the side of the inside of the cauldron that specify how much water to put in. The result was pretty satisfying. The lights in the middle of the cauldron lit up green and the water started to bubble. Out of the bubbles mist started to rise and pour over the edge of the cauldron. The only real problem was the water actually gets splashed over the edge of the cauldron slightly. Everything around the cauldron started getting wet.
How to keep the cauldron mister from Target from splashing
The splashing was a big problem in my eyes. It was frustrating that the surface of the table that the cauldron was sitting on would become soaked after a few minutes of running. I tried putting more water into the cauldron thinking that it wouldn’t splash so much but this assumption was wrong. It seemed to splash even more with more water. I then tried only filling the cauldron up to the minimum line. This definitely helped but did not eliminate the problem completely.
Eventually I gave up on trying to keep it from splashing. I decided a solution would be to put a black towel underneath the cauldron mister so that any water that splashed out would be soaked up immediately.
